User Guide: Athena AI Voice Companion

Athena Helm features a state-of-the-art voice-controlled crew assistant. This allows single-handed sailors to execute physical yacht commands while keeping both hands securely on the wheel.

Supported Voice Profiles

You can swap between several onboard personas using the companion panel selector:

PersonaSpeaking TonePrimary Use Case

Active Voice Commands

When you activate the microphone (or type on-screen), Athena listens for contextual naval patterns:

Lighting & Electrical Commands

  • "Turn on the deck lights" / "Deck floodlights on"
  • "Dim cabin lights" / "Cabin lights off"

Bilge & Mechanical Ventilation

  • "Check bilges" / "Clear bilge pumps"
  • "Run engine extraction fans" / "Fan status"
  • "Stabilize helm" / "Engage pilot computer"
  • "What is our current batteries depth" / "Solar yield check"

Off-Grid Fallback (No Internet)

When sailing past cellular coverage zones:

  1. Athena automatically downgrades request handling to a clean, fast onboard offline rule-engine Parser.
  2. Standard telemetry checks, fan toggles, and safety alarms will still execute immediately on the ship's local computer.
  3. Conversational "chit-chat" requiring remote LLMs will queue up, or resolve via your custom Raspberry Pi local Ollama deployment if configured.
